Falls impact the safety and independence of seniors, while also creating economic and personal costs. Understanding risk factors, providing comprehensive assessments and determining appropriate evidence-based fall management programs are essential to providing quality comprehensive care and services to our seniors today. This program will provide you with a deeper understanding of the complicated fall risk factors for the aging and provide frameworks for evaluating and identifying seniors at risk. It will also explore several evidence-based fall avoidance strategies to assist healthcare professions to decrease the number and impact of falls in seniors.
Following this presentation the participant will be able to:
• Recognize the many factors that would place a senior at risk for a fall
• Discuss screening and assessment methods to identify the population/individuals at risk
• Identify strategies and evidence-based management programs to decrease falls and their negative impact on quality of life
• Discuss potential physical and emotional consequences that occur along with falls
